Antique majolica large footed pedistal plate circa 1818-1850.
Even though this pedistal plate is not marked, I did find the same large plate in my Villeroy & Boch book which shows this being manufactured between 1840-1845. I have included photos.
I also have a smaller plate with the early U&C/S makers mark. I have included a photo, #10. I have found that makers mark in my book of Sarreguemines marks. It states that this mark was used by the manufacture of the Schramberg majolica factory in Germany that was founded in 1818 by Isidor Faist. This mark was used on majolica close to the third part of the 19th century also around 1840-1845
This beautiful antique majolica footed pedistal plate features art nouveau motifs with an ornate rim of leaves, berries and medallions. The center goes from a swirling pattern to a lined pattern into a large central medallion. It has a high gloss and deep rich colors! Just beautiful.
It measures 10.25 inches in diameter and stands 2 inches tall.
It is in excellent condition for its great age with no chips or cracks. It has one small nibble on the bottom foot, see photo 9, some glaze flakes on the rim and stilt marks on the back from being fired in the kiln. All normal for antique majolica this age, 170 years old!!
We are pleased to be able to offer others in this pattern. They are available in our eCRATER store for your collecting enjoyment!
