OLD PADDLE-WHELER RIVER STORY MEMORABILIA IS RAPIDLY DISAPPEARING Folks, step aboard these little paddle wheelers with only a single cargo GOLD Yep, it’s stacked everywhere and what they couldn’t find room sor the miners had to put it in suitcases, leather grips, cigar boxes, packing cases, belts, caribou hide pokes, jam jars, medicine bottles, tomato cans and blankets. In one instance, a suitcase was so heavy it took two men to hoist it aboard the tiny steamer ALICE. Another recorded instance, the deck of the paddle-wheeler P. B. WEARE had to be shored up with wooden poles cause the weight of the gold treasure was so heavy. And then all of a sudden, the river froze – AND THERE WAS NOTHING TO BUY Oh gee, can you imagine. It’s a shame that our past is being lost. It’s as simple as that.
