Which makes this story even more appealing cause in the annals of the old west, there were many great writers – most of whom are named in the legends of story-tellers and some that deserved that title. Here is a story entitled “A TIP OF THE HAT TO SAM DAVIS” by Celesta Lowe. He wrote: THE LURE OF THE SAGEBRUSH Have you ever scented the sage-bush that mantles Nevada’s plain? If not, you have lived but half your life And that half lived in vain You may tread the halls of pleasure where the lamps of folly shine ‘Mid the sobbing of sensuous music And the flow of forbuyden wine. But when the revel is over And the dancers turn to go, You will long for a draught of her crystal streams That springs from her peaks of snow. And when you die you will want a grave Where the Washoe zephyr blows, With the green of the sage-bush above your head What need to plant a rose! Ah, yes, Sam Davis hob-nobbed with the greatest of the old west writers yet “Nevada Sam” is not a household name in literary circles. It wasn’t that he was not in their class – it was just – well – he never took himself seriously. He wrote under assumed names – for fictitious papers of questionable assignments and all the while his readers wondered about this contemporary of Mark Twain, Rollin Daggett, Dan DeQuille. You must read this. There were many a western story published – the common ones about cowboy and Indians are listed on eCRATER every day but the rarer ones about one of the great writers of the old west like this one are seldom found. Collectors treasure them and their price guide value rises every day. They are hard to find. I hunt them out cause really the better, untold and rarer stories were published in the rest. Here’s one of ‘em. Following my retirement, I have dedicated my remaining hours to indexing the Genealogy of our western pioneers. During my research, I discovered that thousands of our kinfolk lay unfound and unrecognized on some book dealer’s shelf. Because Old Western History and Memorabilia was printed before computer indexing, I index every item I sell. This complete index will be bound and included in this offering at no additional cost. I hope you appreciate the effort. It’s a shame that our past is being lost. It’s as simple as that. My wife kids me that after I find a piece I like, buy it, read it, research it, take a picture, scan it, write the blurb, pay the eCRATER entry fee and commission, that I end up making about 50 cents an hour. But, OH HOW I LOVE THIS OLD WESTERN HISTORY. What a story, Rare Story!!! Great Pictures. You will love it as it was published in this old complete western magazine of many years ago. The issue is in good condition, the cover is in vibrant color. As clearly stated in my description, this is featured story in a rarely found and seldom read unusual and complete western magazine. I don't give out name of publication or date because I have caught competitors copying my index and work and trying to sell it as theirs. I hope you understand.
