“ Buy more land and never sell “ Robert E Lee’s advise to Captain Richard King RICHARD KING’SHANDSOME PASTURESA HISTORY OF KING RANCHFolks, I was privileged to handle the dispersal of the horses of the King Ranch. At that time, I met and interviewed the daughter of Mr. Kleberg. It was a thrill of a lifetime. Here is the founder’s story in an exciting best western history. It’s one of the best. When the King Ranch decided to product their thoroughbred horses in Houston, Texas. The sale drew more interest in Texas than any other horse sale ever--so much so--that I prevailed upon the Texas Secretary of Agriculture- John C. White-- to print the catalog in Spanish. (The catalog is now a collectors item). They were mailed to every country in South America. At the sale, I was deluged with cashier checks from Mexican breeders. It was astounding. Unfortunately, on the morning of the sale it was my sad duty to announce that : Robert Kleberg had died. Please read this. There were many a western story published – the common ones about cowboy and Indians are listed on eCRATER every day but the rarer ones about the great pioneers of the old west like this one are seldom found. Collectors treasure them and their price guide value rises every day. They are hard to find. I hunt them out cause really the better, untold and rarer stories were published in the rest. Here’s one of ‘em. Following my retirement, I have dedicated my remaining hours to indexing the Genealogy of our western pioneers. During my research, I discovered that thousands of our kinfolk lay unfound and unrecognized on some book dealer’s shelf gathering dust. Because Old Western History and Memorabilia was printed before computer indexing, I index every item I sell. This complete index will be bound and included in this offering at no additional cost. Humbly, I am trying to keep history alive.I hope you appreciate the effort. LEE TOLD KING TO BUY MORE LAND AND NEVER SELL - AND HE DID As you know, I spend hours searching old basements, going through attics, sitting on wooden floors to find old Stories of Western Americana. Here is “RICHARD KING'S HANDSOME PASTURES” by Lela and Rufus Waltrip. This is rare old western history of King and how he amassed a fortune in land and cattle. IT IS JUST GREAT. You have not seen it before. I never found it in 50 years. OLD KING RANCH MEMORABILIA IS RAPIDLY DISAPPEARING While others clip ads from magazines, I save history. It’s a shame that our past is being lost. It’s as simple as that. My wife kids me that after I find a piece I like, buy it, read it, research it, take a picture, scan it, write the blurb, pay the eCRATER entry fee and commission, that I end up making about 50 cents an hour. But, OH HOW I LOVE THIS OLD WESTERN HISTORY. What a story, Rare Story!!! Great Pictures. You will love it as it was published in this old complete western magazine of many years ago. The issue is in excellent condition, the cover is pristine and in vibrant color. As clearly stated in my description, this is featured story in a rarely found and seldom read unusual and complete western magazine. I don't give out name of publication or date because I have caught competitors copying my index and work and trying to sell it as theirs. I hope you understand.
