Perennial or Annual
1 to 3 feet tall
Full sun or part shade
Grows anywhere, but Hardy zones 9-10
Can be a container plant
Scarlet sage will grow anywhere. It is easy to grow, and flowers beautifully. If you live in a warmer gardening zone, it may even come back every year ( in zone 9-10 and in some places in zone 8 as well).
It easily reseeds also.
Other places it will grow as an annual and quickly come to bloom, but you will need to replant each year. Will reseed itself in zones 6-9. Blooms attract hummingbirds and butterflies which are beneficial to repel pests. No chemicals needed!
Best in full sun, but will tolerate some shade. Also, is drought tolerant. Easy and carefree!! A must for your garden, balcony or patio.
Sow seeds 1/4" deep once temps are in the 70's. Lightly cover & keep seeds mosit until germination.
DO NOT overwater your seeds! You will attract those nasty fungus gnats from bacteria growing in your soggy soil. Then your seedling will tip over and die. That is the major error people make with their seeds. Or they let them dry out or bake them in the sun.
Once the seeds germinate, do a little 25% solution of fish emulsion and let them have some morning sun for a couple of hours. Increase the time in the sun slowly.
Once the seedlings are "hardened off", you can transplant into your garden. Sage is really easy to grow and not fussy.
