Heliconia latispatha is a small heliconia, reaching about 3-4 feet in height. It has spiral red bracts fading into a yellow base, which fades into a green rachis. Grows well in sun to partial shade. Blooms from May through August. Will bloom in a pot, and has some cold tolerance. Somewhat invasive in the garden.

Plant at a depth of 3/4" using well draining soil mix, containing peat moss, organic matter and coarse sand. Keep warm, damp and in bright, filtered light with high humidity. (can be acheived by covering the pot with a plastic sheet)Fertilize weekly. Can be slow germinating and sporadic
