A much-branched herbaceous perennial native to South Africa, growing on grassy or stony slopes, and in open countryside or among shrubs. Salvia stenophylla has sparsely spaced, narrow leaves that gives off a wood-like aroma when crushed. Blooms in spring with tiny pale blue flowers grow in whorls of 6 to 8, held in a hairy calyx. Hardy from zone 9 onwards. 1 foot tall and wide. Full sun. Well-drained garden soils. Moderate water. Fresh, hard-to-find seeds, harvested 8/2010.
