ABOUT AGATES:

AGATE is a banded variety of Chalcedony, associated with volcanic lava. It is composed of layers of quartz, sometimes of different colors. When you see Banded Agate, it is called by the sub-category name AGATE, instead of Quartz.

Natural Agates can be shades of brown, tan, honey amber, dull reds, gray, and dullish white. To bring out the patterns and bands in Agate, many Agates are dyed. This is a tradition going back thousands of years.
