Sweet and adorable this little mini church doll has been known by several names: hanky dolls, prayer dolls, church babies, church pew babies, church pew dolls, or pew dolls.
In the early days of the 1900's, mothers would borrow their husband's handkerchief and fashion it into a little doll to soothe and console her small child during church. It kept little hands busy and if dropped, no sound would be heard to disturb the congregation.
Today these type of dolls are still popular and a very popular collectors item, especially vintage ones.
This little church baby is made of vintage fabric from an old vintage pillowcase trimmed in new lace. Her bonnet is also lace and ties in a bow in back with white embroidery floss. Lace hat is attached to keep from falling off and getting lost. She has pink satin ribbon that ties in a bow at her neckline and sleeping eyes. She is the perfect size for fitting right in a little girls purse!
She measures: 6 1/2"L.
A wonderful gift for any little girl. There's many gift giving possibilities for these delicate dollies. Baby showers, new parents gift, makes a charming and unique addition to gift baskets, and looks lovely resting a top a dresser of a nursery or little girl's room. They have also been known to use as decorations for a childs Christmas tree. Just a wonderful little heirloom keepsake gift to pass on from one generation to the next, creating a story from mothers to daughters for years to come.
