Fulper Bros Flemington NJ stoneware pottery crock rare 1 1/2 flower 1880's
This is a a Fulper Bros Flemington NJ 1 1/2 crock. Quoting directly from Lehner's book of marks, "Abraham (also called Abram) Fulper lived until 1881, when his sons operated as G.W. Fulper and Bros. and also as Fulper Bros." So the crock has been around a while. Anyway, it is marked Fulper Bros. Flemington NJ 1 1/2 and has 2 "ear" handles. It also has an interesting incised double band under the applied handles and encompassing the "1 1/2" above and below, and encircling the entire piece. It is about 8" tall and 8 3/4" across the top. It has a black Poinsettia? flower with dots as shown. Glaze discrepancy is common on these pieces, it is not post manufacturing damage, made that way right from the kiln. It has a crack as shown that does not enter the painted flower area or even show when displaying the piece on a cabinet. There are some shallow dings, see pics.
