You are looking at a solid cast brass, 'frog' match-holder or vesta, circa 1930s. This delightful little fellow measures three inches long by two and a half inches wide, his body is hinged to reveal the compartment for storing matches, which can then be 'struck' by using the groove down his back.
This will make a novel addition to any collection of Old English brassware.
