The ground dried leaves of the oregano plant. It has a slight mint flavor, along with pungent and bitter undertones. It is strong and aromatic. It is similar in consistency to flour but is dark to deep green in color.
Works great in most Italian and Greek dishes such as spaghetti, pizza, lasagna, eggplant, lamb and rice. Mix in salad dressings, dips, soups and stews, vegetables and biscuit or bread dough. Sprinkle on roast chicken, baked or broiled fish or pork.
Since this product is already ground, add it near the end of the cooking process to obtain its fullest flavor. Use in applications where visible herbs are not desirable. Start by using 1/8th tsp. and adjust from there.
