Beautiful vintage Lampe Berger from the 1960's. The lamp is fitted with solid brass mount and snuffer cap. The lamp is in wonderful condition and it is still bearing it's original sticker marked:
"opale véritable" which means real opaline.
Ref: "VA Opaline". Valléristhal.Opaline. 1960-1968. From the Gérald de Vilcocq book, Lampes Berger.
Valléristhal is a firm set in Lorraine, east of France, skilled in opalin. This material, the name of which is inspired from opale, a stone of similar appearance, is a glass witha milky aspect and an irised reflection. It had first been adopted by the 19th century well-off society, then had fallen out of fashion for several decades.
Nevertheless, the launching in 1960 of a model stronglyinspired from our ancestors' base fitted petrol lamps, will obtain an immediate success. The smart shape and pastel tints, allied with refined material has certainly contributed to this success.
Please note that the lamp comes without the burner. New Lampe Berger burners are readily available from Lampe Berger dealers worldwide and online stores.
