Description: Waiting for your purchase is this rare and unusual teapot. It certainly has 2 or 3 things going for it. Firstly, it was made for the House of Goebel, a famous German pottery company. But, strangley, it was actually made by Arthur Wood, a famed English potter. And then, there is the wonderful Oriental motif of the dragon. Finally, the tea pot appears never to have been used and it is in excellent condition. The teapot is made of a good quality porcelain type material, decorated with transfers, and then glazed. The shape is hexagonal or 6-sided with a roomy ear-shaped handle and an elegantly curved spout. The lid is also hexagonal with a button finial knob. There are relief designs around the top edges of the pot and also the lid. The lid has 3 mossy green, wavy, squiggly, serpentine patterns around the top, which echo the curves in the dragon's tail. The dragon design is seen on back and front of the teapot. HIs claws are bared and his nostrils breathe fire. The ferocious dragon is encircled by a geometric ring. On the bottom of the pot is a large dot which says HOUSE OF GOEBEL, a design in the middle, and STAFFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND. Above this dot, the words ARTHUR WOOD are incised in the pot. Below the dot, ENGLAND is incised. I can only conclude that Arthur Wood made this pot for the House of Goebel. Goebel is also maker to the famous Hummel figurines.
Measurement: The teapot is almost 7 inches tall. It measures almost 10 inches from back of handle to tip of spout. It is 5 inches across the bottom at the widest part. I believe this pot will hold 4 cups.
Condition: EXCELLENT--no chips or cracks--pot is clean and has no stains--does not appear to have ever been used--does have "crazing" which are tiny crackles in the glaze itself. This is usually an indication of age and is found on many vintage items.
