This vintage gold-colored music box is about 4" round and 3 1/2" high. The lid removes to reveal a shallow bowl-like compartment which at one time held face powder.
Ladies in the mid-1900's would often have these musical powder boxes on their vanities.
The box sits on 3 round feet and has a pretty raised flower pattern around the outside. The bottom is wood and has a key to wind the music. The music will play when the lid is lifted; the song is "Tell Me Why". Box has some oxidation from age and a minor dent in the lid. Music plays well. There is a sticker on the bottom that says Cody Musical Creations, Fifth Avenue, New York.
This box was probably made in the early 1950's.
(The song "Tell Me Why" was written in 1951 by Marty Gold and was recorded soon after by popular singer of the time, Eddie Fisher.)
