Sidney & Shirley Robbins
When we first experienced the blight of child labour in parts of Central Africa where we lived, we related this situation to our own children.
Never before had we associated slavery with the little children in any neighbourhood.
When we discovered that women and children are being sold into the sex trade, this made us look anew at that sweet little great-grandchild of three years old.
We could not even start to imagine the horror of her being snatched - as so many across the globe have been and are still being right now - and ending up in an Eastern brothel.
The tragedy is that while the exploitation of women and children goes on unimpeded, there continues to be more hype and publicity about what happened centuries ago!
However, slavery remains alive and well today, flourishing in our cities and towns - wherever you live - right in your own neighbour-hood.
People are still abducted, bought, sold and denied all rights, even to having no say over their children.
There is public outrage and shocked disbelief when a child is either abducted or is sexually abused. But while the world celebrates the elimination of slavery 200 years ago, such incidents have become a common occurrence in today's world.
Trafficking of humans; child sex-slavery - the victims, children as young as three - and even babies; prostitution; mental and physical coercion; these are all widespread and ever-growing evils that are amassing vast profits for crime syndicates.
While the disappearance of a child will touch the hearts and raise the fears of millions, there are no words to describe the anguish of the parents who have experienced the tragedy of a child being abducted. Today it is every parent's worst nightmare. All parents face the same challenges when it comes to their children's safety: whom to trust, whom to distrust, what to believe, what to doubt, what to fear, and what not to fear?
This book traces the origins of slavery from early history, through Biblical, Roman and Grecian times. It also explains the various interpretations of slavery, and its abuses.
This is an exposé of the current evils encompassing the world. It is a prod to the conscience of society in general, the media, government at all levels, and to the Churches and other religions, religious organizations and society at large; all of whom appear to go about their business seemingly indifferent to the distress and suffering of countless millions of victims - victims who do not even officially exist and are therefore powerless to resist.
This is an exposé of the current evils encompassing the world. It is a prod to the conscience of society in general, and to the Churches in particular.
It is a battle cry for everyone to have the courage and foresight to tackle this evil head-on.
We ask you to do all in your power to stop this horrendous evil.
The proceeds of every book sold will help us to spread the word and press for action.
