Thomas Gainsborough was born in Sudbury, on May 14, 1727, in England. He was a landscape artist but he was also one of the greatest portrait painters. Gainsborough executed more than 500 paintings, of which more than 200 are portraits. His portraits are characterized by the noble and refined grace of the figures, by poetic charm, and by cool and fresh colors. The painting "Duchess of Devonshire" is one of the many of his masterpieces. In 1774 Gainsborough moved to London where he became a foundation member of the Royal Academy. Thomas Gainsborough died of cancer in 1788.
This print was taken from an antique art folio set which was published in 1901 from the original works.
Excellent condition due to being stored flat with light age toning. Never been framed.
