"A Spring Afternoon"
by James Jacques Joseph Tissot (1836-1902)
French painter and graphic artist. Early in his career he painted historical costume pieces, but in about 1864 his paintings usually involved fashionable women. Tissot was one of the few painters that gave us an accurate image of high society. In his paintings the ladies pose in costumes that show the latest in fashion. He lived in Paris and London and exhibited in the 1860s.
