This product allows easy removal of the fuel tank. You avoid prying the hardened fuel hose loose from the petcock. Kit contains a Colder Products white acetal (like Delrin) disconnect, fastened to a loop of Shields 368 series boat fuel hose. EFI-rated Ideal hose clamps are supplied for hookup. The disconnect has no automatic shutoff. In case your petcock is leaking, a plug is included to positively stop fuel flow. A leaky petcock is a possiblilty with the Valkyrie.
The fuel hose makes a 360 degree loop underneath the petcock, using steel rings as support structures. Oetiker hose clamps keep the fuel hose attached to the steel rings. The structure is very strong..
A courtesy repair o-ring, of Viton-GF, is included for the disconnect's main seal.
A Disconnect Repair Kit (a pair of Viton-GF o-rings) is available separately from Red Eye, should the Colder Products nitrile o-ring get damaged or harden with time. You can buy nitrile replacement o-rings directly from Colder Products Co., and places like NAPA and ACE Hardware (a visual match up to a standard size should work OK).
This hose is admittedly extreme overkill for this gravity-feed application. Shields designed this fuel hose in accordance with SAE J1527, to meet US Coast Guard A1-15 rating. This means everything a fuel injected car or truck needs, plus 2.5 minutes of fire resistance, plus very low permeability to ethanol. We use this hose because it has a very tight bending radius.
