One of my favorites. This is Elgin's 21 jewel, 18 size, Father Time movement with its ornate damaskeening, gold jewel settings and gold color script. In addition, it was recently serviced, including a fresh main spring.
Movement: The 21 jewel, 18 size, lever setting movement runs with strong motion and keeps very good time. The serial number on the movement is 9447246 dating it to 1901.
Case: The movement is housed in a yellow gold filled, swing-out case made by the Philadelphia Watch Case Co. The swing ring hinge is strong and the swing-out functions properly. There are designs on the back cover that show wear, but are still discernible. There are no significant dents or scratches and no initials or dedications. The gold fill is good with the only wear through (brassing) being some small spots on each side of the stem and a small sliver partially around the front bezel..
Dial: The dial is a double sunk porcelain type with bold Arabic style numbers surrounded by red color five minute markers. It has excellent eye appeal with the only imperfections being some light hairlines - easy to overlook.
Hands and Crystal: The dial is complimented with Spade style hands and a beveled glass crystal. Both the hands and crystal are in excellent condition.
The watch measures 55 mm in diameter, not counting the stem and bow.
