Here is a very nice vintage cobblers last. It is a bit different than most that I see on ebay. It was part of hugh work bench that my grandfarther aquired when he arived in this country about 1907. The work bench was old and being discarded at that time, so I don`t know just how much older the cobblers last is.
I always thought it was home made until I cleaned it up for ebay. The name JAs (James) M. Mandeville is stamped in the wooden part. The wood looks to to have been done by hand with a spoke shave and hand saw. There are some age splits in the wood (hence the steel ring around the neck near the top). Not sure if it is part of an old repair or was there from the start.
The iron part has been wire brushed and oiled. The wood has been cleand a bit and had paste wax applied. Whole thing has a nice patina and will look very nice in your collection. It is 24.625 inches in height.
