Description: A perennial used in ancient times in the Mediterranean area. Once established can last over 20 years. Remove dead and old fronds. Fertilize and mulch each winter at which time the root crowns can be transplanted. Prefers light friable soils with a pH of 7. Does well in sunny or partially shaded positions. Produces delicious long straight spears with tight tips. Resistant to most types of rust. Sow after last frosts. Sow 5mm deep in rows 1.2 metres apart and plants 40cm apart. Cut continuously for regular supply but do not harvest too heavy during first 2 years.
