Geoffrey, an impoverished writer is madly in love with Mavis another aspiring writer. Unable to marry her due to his poverty, Geoffrey in anger curses God for abandoning him. Enter Prince Lucio de Rimanez, who informs Geoffrey he has inherited a fortune but must place himself in the Prince's hands to enjoy his new fortune. Geoffrey is unaware that the Prince is actually Satan who is attempting to show God he can corrupt anyone.
