Antique Racine Rockford, Quadruple Plated Coffee Pot
The Rockford Silver Plate Company was formed in 1882 after a fire ravaged Racine, Wisconsin and the Racine Silver Plate company was destroyed. The City of Rockford, Ill. asked its owners to rebuild there and the name was changed to Rockford Silver Plate Company in 1882. Their silver plated pieces were of very high quality and sold only through select jewelry stores. The company continued operations in Illinois until 1925 at which point the Rockford plant was purchased by Raymond Sheets, and it was renamed Sheets-R.S. Co.
Quadruple silver plate was some of the highest quality made during the late part of the 19th Century. "Quadruple" silver-plated items are four times as heavily plated with silver than items marked Standard silver-plated.
