This is for the 1981 Lord of the Rings calendar, issued in conjunction with the 25th Anniversary of the first publication of Lord of the Rings. As it states on the back of the original sleeve, the calendar contains "twelve masterfully rendered illustrations from Ralph Bakshi's Fantasy Films production of The Lord of the Rings are complimented by the most extensive Middle Earth chronological information ever gathered for a Tolkien calendar. This collector's edition also features a unique guide to the Elvish origins of the Middle Earth dating system and a riddle that will challenge even the most avid Tolkien fan."

Copyright 1980 by Tolkien Enterprises (a division of Elan Merchandising Inc) and published by Book Marketing Ideas Inc. As mentioned, this is packed with key dates/events throughout. Calendar includes the following art: Frodo & Gandalf; The Balrag; The Fellowship; Lothlorien; Bilbo in Rivendell; Twilight Decision; Frodo Recovers; Gandalf the White; Sam & Aragorn; Boromir's Funeral; The Ringwraith; and Orthanc. Calendar measures 13" x 12".

The original cardboard sleeve/box is here with some edge and corner wear. Stress marks to left side. Back shows some light staining in a couple of small spots. Opening is on the right side, and there is an edge tear on the front at the opening which extends inwards about 3/8 - 1/2". Calendar cover has a couple of light rubs to it. Back cover has a light wrinkle. Inside is very nice with no writing or creasing, and looks barely used. Both sheets of rice paper are also still here and untorn. Nice example of this very cool Middle Earth calendar, featuring great Bakshi cell art!
