"Folk Banjo Styles" with Tom Paley & Eric Weissberg, Elektra 1962 stereo (vinyl record LP)
VG++/VG+ (Record/Cover)
Eric Weissberg, Tom Paley, Art Rosenbaum & Marshal Brickman
“Folk Banjo Styles”
Elektra Records EKS-7217
LP Released in 1962
This is an original stereo pressing from 1962 I think, although the date is not given anywhere on the release. Butterfly labels on the vinyl show it to be an early pressing. This album is part history lesson and part exposition, with extensive liner notes describing the history, playing styles and banjos of the future. Incredible material by the top folk pickers of the era.
Tracks:
A1 Eric Weissberg with Marshall Brickman: Flop-Eared Mule
A2 Eric Weissberg with Marshall Brickman: Wildwood Flower
A3 Eric Weissberg: John Hardy
A4 Eric Weissberg: Nine Hundred Miles
A5 Eric Weissberg with Marshall Brickman: Lonesome Road Blues
A6 Tom Paley: Wild Bill Jones
A7 Tom Paley: Pretty Polly
A8 Tom Paley: Rabbit, Where's Your Mammy?
A9 Tom Paley: Handsome Molly
A10 Tom Paley: John Henry
A11 Tom Paley: The Eighth of January
A12 Tom Paley: Marching through Georgia
B1 Art Rosenbaum: Callahan
B2 Art Rosenbaum: Coal Creek March
B3 Art Rosenbaum: Across the Sea
B4 Art Rosenbaum: Harlan County Farewell Tune
B5 Art Rosenbaum: Swannanoa Tunnel
B6 Art Rosenbaum with Marshall Brickman: Spanish Fandango
B7 Art Rosenbaum: Goodbye Old Booze
B8 Eric Weissberg with Marshall Brickman: Bluegrass Medley
B9 Eric Weissberg with Marshall Brickman: Forty Winks
B10 Eric Weissberg with Marshall Brickman: Devil's Dream
The grade of the record is VG++, with only a couple of very light surface-only marks that do not affect play. The cover grades to VG+ with very light evidence of handling or storage, bright artwork & text, nice corners and no splits. A great copy.
