It is very surreal and depicts two fauns or satyrs laying near the ocean surrounded by grass and barnacles. It is amazing in every aspect. The little baby satyr and mother are even anatomically correct! The baby is breast feeding on his mother. This fantasy, mythology wall plaque is the only one of it's kind in the world and can be hung on a wall or be displayed on a plate rack or holder. It has a metal wire on back. It is quite heavy and large. It measures approximately 11 inches in diameter. It has a black stamp with the artist's name and year 1984 on the back and is very faint. One has to look very close to see it. It is in very good condition with the exception of a small chip on one of the edges of the grass as shown in pictures.Here is some info about the artist:Christina MacEwenSculpture 1990-2011http://christinamacewensculpture.ca/Christina Mac Ewen studied Drawing and Painting at the Ontario College of Art (A.O.C.A.) and Fine Art at U. of T. and the University of Guelph (B.A.). Her work is represented in public, corporate, government and private collections in Canada, the U.S.A., and several other countries. Christina has exhibited and taught for many years in the U.S.A. and Canada. She has worked with raku and mid-range stoneware in Ottawa since 1974.Mac Ewen's work reflects her multi-media background, combining ceramic sculpture techniques with her love of painterly colour. Fired stoneware clay (which she mixes herself) is pigmented using painting techniques similar to those used in egg-tempera painting. This process is integrated with traditional stains and glazes. Found objects are often incorporated into a work. Mac Ewen's imagery expresses a lifelong interest in materials and in drawing. Natural forms, mythologies and historical artifacts are often sources. A sense of humour enlivens much of her work.
