This is hand beaded on a material that I am really not sure what it is made of--it feels like a thick cotton felt. The thread is different than usual...it's heavy and made of numerous strands twisted together to make the one strand of thread. This measures 10.5" x 8.5". The beads appear to be made of glass.

Unfortunately, I don't have any history on this piece. I purchased this at a sale because I thought it was beautiful. It was in a frame at the time of purchase and it had been displayed in a school. It is a beautiful piece in relatively good condition. There is one loose strand of beads at the top and same with the end of a strand on the left side but it has not come undone, just loose where the thread on the back could be pulled to tighten it but I do NOT want to fool with it or change anything. I don't know the age of this piece. I was told at the time of purchase that it was an antique, which it looked like through the glass on the frame. I removed it from the frame and I would say that it is vintage to antique since I truly can not tell the age.
