In 1932, the federal government levied a tax on gasoline of 1 cent per gallon--about 6 percent of the price of gasoline at that time--as a way to raise revenue. Since then, the tax rate has gradually increased; it now stands at about 23 cents per gallon.

State and local governments also tax gasoline consumption. Currently, the average tax paid on a gallon of gasoline in the United States is about 64 cents--or roughly 27 percent of the price (assuming an average retail price of $2.25). Those 64 cents of tax include average state and local taxes of 33 cents.

The US consumes over 369 Billion gallons of gasoline daily, which equals a lot of tax and sales revenue... No wonder the government and Big Oil don't want consumers to know how to produce their own fuel.

Making Ethyl alcohol to use in place of gasoline... You can do it for less than a dollar a gallon!!! That is with buying corn from someone else, imagine if you grow your own! we are talking less than 30 cents or so a gallon!!! With gas prices skyrocketing in price, this does not seem like a bad ideal.

And it is pollution free and gives your car better acceleration and it makes your car run cooler!!! And you don't loose any MPG! I would not recommend a Breathalyzer around the exhaust though!!! :)

Another thing is if you have a later model car there is nothing you really have to do other than a new fuel filter and drain the gas tank and add some white lightnin' then you are ready to go!
