Here is a wonderful antique book titled… Household Discoveries and Mrs. Curtis’s Cookbook. An encyclopedia of practical recipes and processes. Published by Success Company's Branch offices, Petersburg, New York. This was first published in 1903. This hard cover book is dated 1908/1909.
Please see all the pictures.... The covers show some wear and rubbing from age, use and re-shelving. There is some wear to the side back ridge of the spine. INSIDE the pages are at least 97% free of any marks, stains or writing--just a bit of foxing to the paper from age. Inside front cover there is a crack between the cover and the first blank page with a small stain at the crease at the bottom of the book. First blank page has an old price in pencil at the top of the page. There is are cracks in the book between pages 262 and 265 (index section) but no loose pages—looks like it was repaired. Back inside cover has some faded stains.

Illustrated with many black and white drawings and charts and a few color plates.
Household portion tells you everything about running a home, from furnishing and decorating to assigning different days for your major chores. You'll learn about heating, lighting, and refrigeration ...prepare to be amazed. How to prepare for Wash Day, Ironing Day, Sewing and Mending Day. Getting rid of household and garden pests, setting up a family workroom where, among other things, you will tan your own leather...and that is just the first part of the book which fortunately has a complete index! The cook book volume follows. This is "a manual of instruction in the art of everyday cookery." (The author, Isabel Gordon Curtis, also wrote "Leftovers Made Palatable" and "The Progress of a Housekeeper.") With a color plate showing two vintage tables set for dinner. Basic chapters are followed by the fascinating "Favorite Dishes in Famous Homes." Women such as then President Taft's wife and the wives of numerous senators and governors share their favorite recipes. (Mrs. Taft's was a Sponge Pudding.) The final chapter before the index is entitled "Some Kitchen Kinks."
There are 25 chapters with many black and white illustrations of household things and duties that need to be done. This is actually two books in one. The other half of the book is Mrs. Curtis's Cook Book by Isabel Gordon Curtis. A manual of instruction in the art of everyday cookery.
