Oops! You are too late! Someone else found this great T-Shirt and it is SOLD!
Here is a very hard to find red, pre-worn, size Medium T-Shirt from the USS Independence CV-62. It is in worn once condition with minimal wear or fading and no holes or stains. On the left side edge of the graphic of the ship is the date 1985. The T-Shirt measures 21 inches across the chest measured under the arms and from the back of the neck band to the bottom hem is 29 inches. The neck tag says that the Tee is a size large, but with these measurements I would say that it is a comfortable size MEDIUM or TIGHT size LARGE due to old school sizes. Great for framing.
NOTE: If you do wear this, make sure you take care in cleaning it. Due to its age, it should be dry cleaned or washed inside out in the gentle cycle and lined dried.
And just so you know...
The carrier operated in the Indian Ocean in 1980-81, after Iran seized the staff of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. The long-running Lebanon crisis was a focus of her 1982 and 1983-84 Sixth Fleet cruises, and she launched air strikes against hostile targets during the latter tour. Just before that 1983 Mediterranean cruise, Independence took part in combat operations to liberate the island of Grenada.
After concluding her final Mediterranean cruise in 1985, Independence entered the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard for an extensive Service Life Extension Program reconstruction. USS Independence returned to the United States in mid-1998 and was decommissioned in September of that year. She is presently in "mothballs" at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
