Black Mata Ortiz pottery with white hand painted geometric designs. It is made from local clay of Mata Ortiz. The black clay is created by firing it in a sealed kiln without oxygen. The white design has been painted onto the black color creating negative spaces. The pot is hand coiled and hand smoothed. It is signed by renowned pottery artist Efraín Lucero Andrew. The bold geometric design is somewhat unusual for him.
Lucero lives and works in the Sección neighborhood of Mata Ortiz in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico.
