Great story after another. The train was not dependable, especially about this time, i.e. expectant mom complained about lateness and conductor asked her why she had taken this train in her condition. She answered, "I wasn't in this condition when I started." Or another story.. Or another time, when train was delayed so long that passenger got out, shot, skinned and cooked a deer. Or another story and the funniest story was how the railroad obtained the nickname "Toluca Cody Railroad Line" . Seems that a bunch of Sweedes took the train for an excursion. They were asked why they were taking the train and answered ".. "Yust to looka" Here is a true tale of romantic American Railroad History entitled "The Squaw Line" by Vera Savan. When a new railroad track was built as an off-shoot of the Sheridan-Billings Line, it was dubbed the Squaw Line because the Indians on the Crow Reservation held up the purchase of the right of way until the powers that be assumed the Indians that their children could ride the train to school when snow was too deep for them to travel on their ponies. Funny. More stories. Well, I don't have the space to relate the story nor do I want to spoil it but you will just love it. Because old RAILROAD memorabilia wasn't indexed, and our kinfolks lay unrecognized on some dealer's shelf, I index every story I present as shown below, I hope you appreciate the effort.
