Seems there was a dispute in Pembina, Dakota Territory over the location of a Hudson Bay Company trading post and the smuggling of whiskey through a “No Man’s Land” led to confirmation of the U.S.-Canadian boundary—which resulted in the most peaceful and unfortified border between any two nations in the world.
