FROM THE REAR COVER
This unique survey, the first of its kind, of 120 major countries throughout the world records Human Rights performance and responses to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and united nation treaties. The information on which it is based has been drawn from world Human Rights Organisations, official and unofficial sources, international institutions as well as individuals.
The survey is in the form of forty questions and answers, covering both traditional Human Rights, such as freedom of expression, association and movement, and the wider area of state power, censorship of the media, telephone tapping, extrajudicial killings, independence of the courts, the right to practice any religion, to use contraceptive devices, to practice homosexuallity between two consenting adults. The results are calculated and summarized by an overall rating.
Although now out of date, some countries have changed so radically as to be barely recognizable, there are a surprising number of countries which could still be included in an updated version.
