Bomarea sp 'Fiesta' 5 seeds V RARE CLIMBING Astroemeria PERUVIAN LILY Vine Red-Yellow
Bomarea sp 'Fiesta', 5 seeds
Here is yet another rarely offered twining vine from South America. The exact species name of this Bomarea is not known (a buyer has emailed to say that it might be B. hirsuta/kalbreyeri) , but many folks have been calling it 'Fiesta' since it is probably the one with the biggest cluster of blooms. This dramatic, gorgeous and vigorous tropical is related to the Alstroemerias, both its flowers and leaves demonstrate this close relationship. Its beautiful blossoms are produced in a dense umbel at the end of the growing shoots. Each umbel can be composed of as many as 60 flowers if well grown, with each bell-shaped bloom being red and yellow spotting exquisite specklings in the throat. Upon pollination, a small "shower-head"-like pod is formed and that ripens to reveal bright scarlet seeds. Hardy from zone 9 onwards. 10 feet tall. Light shade. Rich, well-drained soil. Exclusive, fresh seeds, harvested 08/2012.
