This is a Macaw that I just finished. It is made is a style of woodworking called Intarsia. Here is how it was made. First the pattern is put on wood, I used 1" solid pine, and then all of the pieces are cut out like a puzzle. On this piece there are 55 pieces. Each piece is then sanded and contoured, then painted using a paint stain that I make myself. I like to use this stain because it allows the wood grain to show through. All of the pieces are then reassembled and glued to a backer board. I used 1/4" MDF as the backer board. When reassembling the pieces I used shims (small pieces of wood) the elevate some pieces to give it a dimensional look. The entire piece is then sealed with 3 coats or more of a UV Protective, Non-Yellowing Polycrylic. I have added a saw tooth in the back for easy hanging. This Macaw measures approx. 17" tale x 6" wide x 1-1/2" thick. This piece is 100% handcrafted by me Marylee and would make a great addition to any decor. Also makes a wonderful gift.
Thank you for taking the time to look and please come back again.
