WOVOKA THE INDIAN CHRIST By: Dorothy M. Johnson Friends, the great news - too stunning to believe at first - came to the Sioux. The Son of God was walking the Earth! Soon, Indians who had gone to the great forever would return and hunt side by side with their Indian comrades for great herds of buffalo which had been resurrected to supply the Indians. Wovoka, the Messiah had so forecasted and spread the word that sacred Indian shirts would make the warriors invincible and would shield the soldier’s bullets. For the Sioux Indians, he was their last hope. For the whites, he was a threat. Sadly, the Indians realized to late that Wovoka words were hollow. Three hundred hundred-weakened Indians died the day of the battle – two-thirds of them women and children. For the Sioux Indians, the hope promised by the Ghost Dance was shattered. Their lost kinsman would not, after all, return to life and come riding across the prairie driving the great herds of buffalo. It was over. Here is the rest of the story entitled: WOVOKA THE INDIAN CHRIST By: Dorothy M. Johnson Please read this. This is an overlooked story I found in an unusual and different magazine. There were many a western story published – the common ones about Cowboys and Indians are listed on eCRATER every day but the rarer ones about the Messiah of the Native Indians are seldom found. Collectors treasure them and their price guide value rises every day. They are hard to find. I hunt them out because really the better, untold and rarer stories were published in the rest. Here’s one of ‘em. FOLLOWING PURCHASE AND PAYMENT, IF YOU WILL WRITE ME OF YOUR SPECIAL NAME OR INTEREST, I WILL DO A FREE SEARCH OF MY COLLECTION AND UNINDEXED STORIES AND NAMES. Following my retirement, I have dedicated my remaining hours to indexing the Genealogy of our western heroes. During my research, I discovered that thousands of our kinfolk lay unfound and unrecognized on some book dealer’s shelf gathering dust. Because Old Western History and Memorabilia was printed before computer indexing, I index every item I sell. This complete index will be bound and included in this offering at no additional cost. Humbly, I am trying to keep our history alive.I hope you appreciate the effort. WOVOKA THE INDIAN CHRIST By: Dorothy M. Johnson Folks, sooner or later – Genealogists are going to realize that their family kinfolks are laying on some dealer’s dusty shelves. If I can contribute to finding one little name or photo of that long lost ancestor you have been waiting to find, it’s worth all the time I spend. As a tribute to the honor of our American Indians, my indexed listings will include all Indian names mentioned in the story from this time on.ANCESTORS INDEXED HEREIN, CIRCA: 1889 era ANCESTOR’S LOCATION: NEVADA, CANADA GENEALOGY NAMES INDEXED w * INDICATING PICTURE: ARAPAHO INDIANS BIG FOOT – An Indian Chief.
