This is a great hand-strung vintage chunky necklace dating from the 1970's. This is from our personal collection.
This is an ethnic made necklace with a silver hook clasp. The gemstones are various sizes ~ there are 108 stones in this piece!!
Not certain, (since it has been sometime now) what these stones are. **Maybe some knowledgeable person might let us know thi information.**
They might be:
a. BLUE SODALITE GEMSTONE ~ Sodalite is named in reference to its sodium content. Sodalite is a dark blue stone with white calcite interspersed. The largest deposit of sodalite is in Brazil. It is said sodalite will harmonize the inner being or the conscious and subconscious mind. Sodalite promotes peace and harmony.
b. BLUE SPOT DUMORTIERITE GEMSTONE ~ Dumortierite is a fibrous variably colored aluminium boro-silicate mineral, Al6.5-7BO3(SiO4)3(O,OH)3. Dumortierite crystallizes in the orthorhombic system typically forming fibrous aggregates of slender prismatic crystals. The crystals are vitreous and vary in color from brown, blue, and green to more rare violet and pink. Substitution of iron and other tri-valent elements for aluminium result in the color variations. It has a Mohs hardness of 7 and a specific gravity of 3.3 to 3.4. Crystals show pleochroism from red to blue to violet. Dumortierite quartz is blue colored quartz containing abundant dumortierite inclusions.
