Rand McNally Picturebook Dictionary, First Printing, 1971 Edition, illustrated by Dan Siculan.
All words have been selected for this dictionary in terms of their frequency of use, based on the Horn, Rinsland, Thorndike, and Fitzgerald lists. Unlike most other beginning dictionaries, this dictionary does not limit itself to picturable words, but contains all high frequency words, including the, is, was, etc., because these words are essential to our language and, having no dictionary meaning as such, are the most difficult for children to learn to read and spell. Robert L. Hillerich, Ed.D.
