This is a beautifully hand carved wooden mask crafted out of solid wood. Its origin is the Mountainous regions of the Island of Luzon, The Philippines from the fabled rice terraces in Banaue.
This mask is rather unique. It was designed and carved specifically for us. You will find it no where else. The images across the forehead portray the aspects of the rice harvest which is an integral part of life in Banaue for life. Starting from left to right the images depict the rice terraces, a nipa hut where a native may live, the rice god and the final harvest in a container.
This piece is approximately 18" high and 11" wide and stained dark. It is very solid weighing at nearly 3 pounds. It was carved by the Ifugao tribe of the Igorot people who are the inhabitants of that region.
In times past, the Ifugao were known to be headhunters. Those days have long past, however, they now continue the tradition of woodworking and weaving.
As each of our items is hand carved, each is unique. We guarantee our products to be dried and treated properly to ensure a lifetime of enjoyment.
