Fred Astaire on US Census, Ship/Airline Passenger Lists and Marriage Index Microfilmed Copies on CD
An interesting item for the die-hard fan...Please read everything and ask about anything that might be unclear. These are copies of microfilmed images showing actor/dancer Fred Astaire (real name Frederick Austerlitz) on ship and airline passenger lists, and US Federal censuses, and a California Marriage Index page - all the U.S. documents I could find on Fred Astaire are here. I have transfered them onto a CD-R (Memorex) as JPEG images (.jpg). You will see things such as family members, addresses, ages, occupations, and other individual's information at the time. The passenger lists are the page that he is listed on, with all his information, and the other passengers on that page. These are ships and flights coming back into the U.S. (Note that the ship passenger lists were United States forms, so "S.S." was pre-printed at the top, even though the ship may actually be an "RMS" or other designation).
These are the same documents you could order from the National Archives at costs of over $25/page, and you have to know exactly what to ask for, research is extra. I've already done the "legwork", and can do them for much less, as I have a membership with a 3rd party genealogy service.
Keep in mind that these are microfilmed copies of old documents, and the filled-in information is either typewriter or hand-written, so they will not appear like today's computer-perfect documents. Also, due to the way they were archived at the time, sometimes images are light, dark, bleeded, or etc., which unfortunately can't be helped. I will point out below if any images that are like this. I have straightened and sharpened the images as much as possible where needed.
Included on this CD:
1900, 1910, 1920 US Federal Censuses
The California Marriage Index 1980-85 page, showing he & Robyn Smith
1924 passenger list page, SS Homeric
1929 passenger list page, SS Homeric
1930 passenger list page, RMS Mauretania
1931 passenger list page, SS Europa
1932 passenger list page, SS Paris
1932 passenger list page, RMS Berengaria
1934 passenger list page, SS Bremen
1935 passenger list page, SS Pennsylvania (Mrs. Fred Astaire)
1936 passenger list page, RMS Berengaria
1939 passenger list page, RMS Queen Mary
1944 passenger list page, RMS Queen Mary
1955 passenger list page, Swissair Airlines (On this one the printing is bled-out making it a bit difficult to read. It is a flight from Shannon Ireland to Idlewild Airport, NYC, now known as JFK)
1956 (June) passenger list page, Pan American World Airways
1956 (August) passenger list page, Pan American World Airways (This one is a bit bled-out making some of the words difficult to read. It is a flight from Paris to New York)
Also including blank census reproductions for 1900, 1910, 1920, reference.
Hoping people find these interesting. The searching and researching is a bit pain-staking. I plan on offering other celebrity documents as I complete them.
