A netsuke is a form of small ivory or wood sculpture which developed in Japan over a period of more than 300 years. Netsuke served both functional and aesthetic purposes. The kimono, the traditional form of Japanese dress, had no pockets. Women would tuck small personal items into their sleeves, but men suspended their tobacco pouches, pipes, purses or writing implements, on a silk cord, from their obi (sash). These hanging objects are called sagemono. To stop the cord from slipping through the obi, a small toggle was attached. The toggle is called Netsuke.
We have the best quailty netsuke in China. The Chinese artist carved and polished by hand, this required great effort and it took about two days to complete the work. It is contemporary work of art. Since my friend owns a netsuke factory in Mainland China, we are able to provide wholesale business worldwide at a low price, we try to sell some pieces on ebay.
The netsuke is estimated to be 38 mm x 52 mm x 25 mm.
