Collingbourne's Vint Artzilk Embroidery Floss, 4 Skeins Rich Deep Yellow #355, Priced by the Skein
Note: I'm not totally happy with the colors shown in these pix; have a new editing program that is giving me fits...will try to re-take asap!
This collection of vintage embroidery thread was an estate find. I wasn't familiar with the name but was totally taken with the beautiful sheen and wonderful colors. Collingbourne Mills created the Artzilk line in approximately 1912; it's a "put-together" word standing for "artificial silk", usually made of rayon or other synthetic which gives it its lustrous sheen. ( It seems this synthetic blend tends to curl a bit when stored; this can easily be remedied before using.)
Each skein should have 4-1/2 yards; I'm reluctant to remove the bands, they are so very fragile. Most skeins are held with a loop knot which must be the way they divided. The thread itself seems to be very durable and ready to work with.
There are 4 skeins in this glossy deep yellow; it's a rich luxurious shade, number #355. Price is per skein so that you can buy only what you want.
The beautiful color and sheen should give an exquisite look to any embroidery--I can see decorative stitching on crazy-quilting for one. Just use your imagination!
