...Hard to find in any printing, much less the first, the importance of the author's novel goes beyond the strength and excitement of its story.
The book is one of the very small group of books that rejects worn conventions of the Western novel, that brings to the genre the freshness and new meaning of such classics as 'The Virginian' and 'The Ox-Bow Incident'.
Once again the legend of the old West has been rescued from the banal sentiment and melodrama of the potboilers and is being used by a serious writer for a serious literary purpose.
Books pages are yellowed from age, otherwise it looks as though it has never been read. It is clean, and in great condition, straight spine, intact hinges, no bumped corners, clean cover. Inside is tightly bound with no writing, bookplates, stamps, torn, loose, or creasing of pages. The dust jacket has aging of the colors, very, very slight edge wear at one section of the top and spine area, but has no tears.
