Basil is one of the oldest herbs that is used worldwide. It comes in many flavors, the scent and taste is released when the leaves are rubbed. The oil in the leaves contains the scent & flavor. Basil is a wondereful must have for all gardens, repelling aphids, hornworms, mites and other garden pests.
Cinnamon basil is hard to find at local nurseries and herb stores. it can be used fresh, dried or you can freeze it in ice cubes for stews, soups and pasta sauces.
It will grow 18-30" tall and 12-18" wide, be sure to space plants far enough apart so there is good air circulation (will prevent diseases). Basil can be grown in containers or in the ground.
The cinnamon scented leaves can be up to 2" long and very small pink flowers will grow in the summer. Planting basil around your tomato plants improves the tomato flavor.
Sow seeds once temps are around 70, 1/8" deep in full sun.
Pinch ofter to encourage bushy growth and to keep from flowering.
